DARKTHRONE: 'Frostland Tapes' 3-CD Box Set

Norwegian black metal pioneers DARKTHRONE will release a three-CD box set entitled "Frostland Tapes" on June 23 via Peaceville Records.

For the past 21 years, DARKTHRONE has been one of the leaders of the black metal scene. To coincide with this anniversary, Peaceville Records will release "Frostland Tapes", a fascinating trip into the earliest years of the band and the first official release ever to contain all four of DARKTHRONE's demos in one place. "Frostland Tapes" also includes a rare live recording from Denmark in 1990 (one of only a handful of live appearances that DARKTHRONE has ever made) and, perhaps most significantly, the previously unreleased version of the infamous 1991 "Goatlord" rehearsal session. These songs were intended to feature on the proposed second album before the band changed direction and the tapes were confined to the vaults. Vocals were subsequently added in the mid-Nineties, but they are presented here as the recording sounded in 1991 — instrumental genius, showing the complexity and intricacy of a band with a great future ahead of them. The set comes in a rigid digibook featuring an interview with the band, chronicling their early days, ambitions and inspirations.

Swedish death metal "supergroup" BLOODBATH will release a live CD/DVD digipack entitled "The Wacken Carnage" on June 2 in Europe and June 24 in the U.S. via Peaceville. The package contains footage of the band's appearance at the 2005 edition of the Wacken Open Air festival.

Commented the group: "Almost three years have passed since this carnage took place in Wacken, but worry not — we were already past our best 'expiration date' back when we started the band, so this concert will consequently prove our old school principled death metal values remain timeless. The elegantly brutal artwork was created by Travis Smith."

Reactivated KHOLD To Release New Album In June

Reactivated Norwegian cult black metal act KHOLD will release its fifth opus, "Hundre År Gammal", on June 9th via Tabu Records.

Legendary Norwegian black metallers EMPEROR have posted an exclusive track on their official MySpace page. "I Am The Black Wizards (Emperor Inhale Blacksmoke)" was remixed (with additional production) by The Blacksmoke Organisation, which is described as "an occasional art collective and musical group dedicated to the propagation of audio visual noise."

The Blacksmoke Organisation was founded by THE KLF co-founder Jimmy Cauty and James Fogarty, a 24-year-old heavy metal musician.

MORBID ANGEL Announces New Guitarist

Metal Hammer writer Joel McIver reports that the new guitarist in Florida death metal legends MORBID ANGEL is none other than ZYKLON's longtime axemeister Destructhor (a.k.a. Thor Anders Myhren).

Long-running UK extreme metallers BENEDICTION have posted audio samples from their forthcoming album, "Killing Music", on their MySpace page.

Amesoeurs has almost finished the composition of their full-length album and will enter in a studio in july (if everything comes out as expected). I am really satisfied by the way the new songs are sounding and pretty sure that those who liked "Ruines Humaines" will not be disappointed. We originally planned to make an album of pure 80's rock, but things evoluted in a bit harsher way. The result is a kaleidoscopic mix of new wave and metal sounds following the Amesoeurs' typical style, and of course it will be overflowing of melancholic feelings.

"Kolossus", the new album from Norwegian metallers KEEP OF KALESSIN, is available for streaming in its entirety at the band's MySpace page.

British/Norwegian black metal project CODE, featuring vocalist Simen Hestnaes (a.k.a. ICS Vortex; DIMMU BORGIR, ex-ARCTURUS), bassist/backing vocalist Viper (a.k.a. Vicotnik from DHG), guitarist/songwriter Aort, and drummer Adrian Erlandsson (AT THE GATES, CRADLE OF FILTH), recently entered the studio to begin recording its second album, due before the end of the year through Tabu Recordings.

Commented Aort: "We have just come back from the mix at Studio Fredman [in Sweden] and the album is sounding monumentally killer. Unfortunately, continued schedule problems meant that the vocals did not get recorded in time so we will have to return to finish those off later. Adrian completely devasted the drums for this recording and Vicotnik has manageed to really outdo himself with his most inspired bass work yet. I think we have all raised the bar with this recording and we are itching to get these morbid hymns out to you.

Norwegian black metallers GORGOROTH will release a new live album, entitled "Live in Grieghallen", in June via Regain Records. According to a press release, the CD was recorded live at Grieghallen in Bergen, Norway by Eirik "Pytten" Hundvin and features Infernus on bass and guitar, Gaahl on vocals, and Garghuf on drums.

"Live in Grieghallen" was mixed and mastered by Nico Elgstrand (ENTOMBED) and features all the GORGOROTH "essential songs" from the band's back catalog performed live.
